Heirloom Hourglass is handcrafted entirely from an extremely rare hardwood called Koa. The only place Koa trees grow naturally
is the islands of Hawaii and their culturaland historic significance here is iconic. Growing best in soil that is rich in
deep volcanic ash, Koa truly represents the natural essenc of Hawaii. Used for generations by native Hawaiians for making
canoes, surfboards, and more, it is highly sought after today by craftsmen and artisans for items like musical instruments,
frames, and furnishings. This wood is so desirable that for a time, its use was reserved exclusively for Hawaiian Royalty.
We select the Koa used in making Heirloom Hourglasses for its chatoyancy which is a term typically used to describe gems
and minerals that display near translucent depth. If you look closely at the photo, you can discern the three dimensional,
holographic qualities revealed by the light shining on the curves of the rope shaped pillars. We apply a hand rubbed oil finish
to enhance your Koa hourglass, and to showcase the beautiful red and brown hues of the wood grain that appears to be lit from
within. The Hawaiian Wedding is completed with our pewter palm tree design closures on each side, and these closures
allow you to easily open and close your hourglass and fill it with real Hawaiian beach sands whenever you wish. Colored sands
or beach sands from any place will look wonderful in your hourglass, and we offer many options for personalizing and customization.
Our 24 carat gold plated sun closures and our pewter heart of the sea closures are popular choices for this hourglass. This
and all Heirloom Hourglasses in this collection are 9 and 5/8 inches in height and 5 and ½ inches around, and
this model is very popular for use in Weddings and for creating a unique keepsake from your Honeymoon. A collection kit is
