Wedding Planning Timeline And Helpful Information

12 – 16 Months Before Your Wedding!
Select a Tentative Wedding Date.  It may change depending on availability of desired vendors. Visit ceremony & reception venues you are interested in. Call vendors you wish to use & check available dates. Take into consideration close relatives birthdays, anniversaries, etc. to be sure everyone you want present on your big day will be around. If you give yourself a year or more to plan, you have a much greater chance of booking your desired venues & vendors on your desired date. Once you find the ones that you like, put a security deposit down to hold the date.  Always check the cancellation/refund policies first & get it in writing!
Start a Wedding File.  This is a file or folder to keep all your wedding planning documents, contracts etc. Organization is very important!
Discuss & Select the Style or Theme of Your Wedding.  Pick what best suits you! Formal, Informal, Casual, Outdoors, Beach. There is no wrong choice.  This is Your Day - Make it Your Own!  This will also help in narrowing down which venues you consider.
Announce Your Engagement to Friends & Family. Put an announcement of your recent engagement in the local paper to let people know about the big news!
Decide on a Budget.  Use common sense when deciding on a budget.  Take into account who is paying for what.  The last thing you want is to begin your marriage in debt because you paid too much for Your Wedding.
Hire a Wedding Consultant if you plan to.  Some brides choose to hire a wedding consultant to ease the stress of planning or because their schedule doesn't allow enough time for planning. If you hire a professional who knows the business, it may actually save you money & you’ll get a lot of good ideas!
Shop For a Wedding Gown.  Custom gowns can take up to a year to prepare. Be sure to begin this process as early as possible .Keep in mind that alterations & final dress fittings can also eat up extra time. -Photographer and Videographer.  If your budget allows for it, hire a professional.  Your Wedding Album will be cherished for the rest of your lives.
-Band or DJ.  Interview several.  Review demo CD's to hear their sound and style.  The band or DJ can make or ruin the reception.
Decide on Bridesmaids Dresses.  When ordering your gowns for the women, be sure they look good on everyone.
Start Compiling Names & Addresses For the Guest List.  Keep in mind that you have to combine your list, his family's list, your family's list into the final list.  If you are limited to the number of guests that can be invited to the wedding, be sure to give your families the number of guests they may include in their list.

Department of Motor Vehicles
Changing your name on your driver's license and vehicle registration can only be done in person at the DMV. Most states will require you to bring your old driver's license and a certified copy of your marriage certificate (some may also require your new social security card). Note that your name cannot be changed on your vehicle title. Visit DMV.org, choose your state of residence, and do a search for "name change" for more details.

Voter Registration
You can make this change while changing your name at the DMV. Be sure to ask if there is a separate form for it if you don't see the option on the DMV's name-change forms. If you'd like to acquire a voter registration name-change form online, do an Internet search for "[your state] voter registration name change" for the appropriate link.
